Made in CanadaDescription
These regular-fit jeans with a tapered leg are expertly crafted from a remarkable 17 oz heavyweight Japanese selvage denim. This is one of the heaviest denims we’ve used, renowned for its dynamic aging qualities that highlight the exceptional craftsmanship of Japanese denim.
Both the warp and weft yarns are meticulously ring-spun from the finest organic cotton, mirroring the coarse slub yarns valued in early 20th-century workwear for their durability. The warp yarns have been rope-dyed in pure indigo, a traditional technique that creates a thin, deep indigo layer on the surface while preserving the natural color of the core. This time-honored method is celebrated for its remarkable aging effects.
Combining these two distinct yarn systems—the undyed weft and indigo-dyed warp—woven meticulously on '50s shuttle looms results in a denim masterpiece. The fabric is robust and thick, with a rich texture that develops a grainy surface and pronounced twill lines as it ages. With each wash, the denim distorts and puckers, creating stunning marbled effects.
For us, it's the heritage techniques and rugged character that truly make this denim stand out. It embodies the essence of artisanal Japanese selvage denim, showcasing a distinctive and authentic aesthetic.
