Introducing the 13.75 Kaihara Dry Selvage—a denim that has become truly special to us. Since we first discovered its remarkable aging qualities in 2015, it has continued to impress and inspire. This denim represents a pivotal moment in The Jean Maker's history, being the first selvage denim we ever embraced. It embodies the core of our heritage and craftsmanship.
Featuring a deep indigo warp, an unbleached ecru weft for a vintage-inspired feel, and a tightly woven construction, this denim boasts a dry, crisp texture that's both classic and timeless.
What truly distinguishes this denim is its unique aging process. The warp undergoes a dual dyeing technique, beginning with a dark sulphur dye, followed by an indigo treatment. This process creates a deep, muted indigo shade that’s perfectly complemented by our signature tobacco stitching. The denim's fascinating tonal shifts over time are the result of this intricate dyeing method. Known as green-cast denim, it carries a subtle greenish-blue undertone that gradually becomes more prominent with wear. As the dark denim lightens, the green-cast evolves into a clear blue, offering a captivating visual transformation. This enduring quality has made it a treasured part of our collection since The Jean Maker's inception in 2015.
We are proud to present the Ueno Dry Selvage, a homage to the skilled artisans at Kaihara who meticulously craft these exceptional denims.
We suggest wearing them regularly for at least six months before the first wash, or even longer if you can. While this may require some patience, it's simply a recommendation. With proper care and attention, you'll be rewarded with a beautifully worn-in pair of jeans..
