Denim Care 1. Before wearing your new Japanese selvedge denim jeans, soak them in a bucket of cold water for about an hour. This will help to set the indigo dye and prevent excessive bleeding. 2. After the initial soak, hang the jeans to air dry. Avoid wringing or twisting them, as this can distort the fabric. 3. When it's time for the first wash, turn the jeans inside out to protect the outer indigo surface and reduce colour fading. 4. Fill a bathtub or basin with cold water and add a small amount of The Jean Maker mild detergent specifically designed for dark or raw denim. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals. 5. Gently agitate the jeans in the soapy water, paying particular attention to any stains or dirt spots. Use your hands to spot clean if necessary. 6. Allow the jeans to soak for about 30 minutes, and then drain the soapy water. 7. Rinse the jeans thoroughly with cold water until all the soap is gone. Again, avoid wringing or twisting the fabric. 8. To maintain the denim's raw and unwashed appearance, hang the jeans to air dry. Avoid using a clothes dryer, as the heat can cause excessive shrinkage and unwanted creasing. 9. While drying, periodically flip the jeans inside out to ensure proper ventilation and drying on both sides. 10. Once the jeans are completely dry, they can be worn as usual. Remember, it's best to wash denim as infrequently as possible to maintain the rugged, authentic look of Japanese selvedge denim. Spot clean any stains if needed, and always follow the manufacturer's instructions for any specific care recommendations.
